HVAC UV Lights in Jacksonville, FL

HVAC UV lights are installed inside your system, where they shine ultraviolet light on surfaces such as the indoor coil. Cool Cats explains what they do, what they don't, and whether one makes sense for your home.

How HVAC UV Lights Work

A UV lamp is mounted inside the air handler or nearby ductwork and aimed at the indoor coil. That coil is cold and wet whenever your AC runs, which makes it a place where organic growth can build up. Keeping UV light on the coil surface is meant to help limit that buildup.

Why the Coil Matters in Northeast Florida

Our cooling season is long and humid, so the indoor coil spends much of the year wet. A coil with buildup on it moves heat less effectively and can contribute to musty odors from the system.

What to Expect

  • 🐾

    Installed inside your equipment

The lamp needs power and a mounting spot with a clear view of the coil. We check your system to see where one fits.

  • 🐾

    Lamps need replacing

UV lamps lose output over time and need replacing on the manufacturer's schedule. We'll tell you the interval for the lamp you choose.

  • 🐾

    Works alongside maintenance

A UV light doesn't replace filter changes or drain cleaning. It's one more piece of keeping the system clean.

What UV Lights Don't Do

A UV light isn't a filter; it doesn't capture dust or other particles. It doesn't control humidity. And we don't make health claims about it or any other indoor air quality product. We'll describe what the equipment does, and the decision is yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a UV light replace my air filter?

No. A UV light doesn't capture particles, so you still need a filter and regular filter changes.

How often does the UV lamp need replacing?

It depends on the lamp. Manufacturers set a replacement interval, and we'll tell you what it is for the one you choose.

Can a UV light go in any HVAC system?

It needs power and a mounting location with a view of the coil. We check your equipment first and let you know if it's a good fit.
